ISM Monitoring EDRR 2020 Year 1
Introduction
We started this year with our re-treatment program of some of those first areas that we have had the chemical breakdown in the soil. With the extensive monitoring of the areas visually and from the transect data, we can show that breakdown and where we need to re-treat.
Accomplishments
We have aerial applicated 4480 acres. We were able to accomplish this many acres with the UDAF amending the squarrose grant with more money. We were able to move our re-treatment forward and using that same theory behind “spraying those first sprayed acres that the chemical has broken down”. Squarrose CWMA chemical profile has been Milestone, surfactant, and fertilizer. The spring aerial application also added escort in those areas we had hoary cress as our new invader. As our shapefiles will show, those areas have been treated and some new areas that were also treated. We had partners partner with the Utah Weed supervisor association and we sprayed another 250 acres in sage grouse area while we had the aerial application going. Which adds to our treatments that took place in conjunction of this grant. The other areas from the original map that was sent is hand spraying these areas are gridded out with Atv’s which takes time to go over the areas. This has been a good tool for us to see previous years of aerial application and making that assessment of do we need to aerial retreat this or is it just isolated patches. This work has been accomplished by the Utah, Tooele, and Juab counties. We have also incorporated the help of the private landowners helping on their own ground with them coming and helping us spray their acreages and being good partners on the project. We have accumulated some in-kind for the project coming from private landowners as well as the counties putting in the time that makes the Squarrose CWMA a big success.
